One of the oldest rides at Universal Studios is also still one of the most popular. Jaws is based on the films about the great white shark who terrorized the town of Amity. The ride starts off as a peaceful tour of Amity Island to scope out the historic areas where Jaws has previously attacked. The ride takes place as tourism started to pick up in the Amity area, and the only reason it slowed down was because of the shark attacks in the area however as people believe the attacks were over with they started to come back. You will learn most of this while watching the in line movies on the screens over your heads. As you get to the head of the line you await your boat that holds about 30 people, you will hear your skipper excitedly welcome you aboard. As you make your way into the harbor he gives you a brief tour of the ship as he also introduces you to his 40mm grenade launcher which he assures you he won’t be using. You make your way around a lighthouse as you hear a distress call from the boat, as you make your way around you see a boat halfway shrunken into the water; the skipper then begins to worry. Before the skipper gets the chance to say anything Jaws makes his first appearance. The shark
then makes its way under the boat and then to the other side sure enough the skipper fires the grenade launcher twice and misses the great white, the skipper then turns the boat into a pitch black boat house where you are only able to see things that he shines his flash light on. Boats start to fall and water starts to splash, Jaws is inside of the boat house! You quickly make your way out to an area filled with gas tanks and electrical wires the skipper fires once more and not only does he miss he hits the gas tank and causes an incredible explosion which sets a fire that you can feel from far away. The shark begins attacking the boat and eventually bites down on an electrical wire and electrocutes himself. The sharks half burnt bloody face pops up one more time and the skipper finally hits him with the grenade launcher, the shark is finally dead and you sail off onto the dock where you are greeted and complimented on your braveness. This ride is also one of the most renovated rides in Universal Orlando, the chances are it might have changed since the last time you’ve been on it.
My experiences with Jaws have always been fun, the first time I went on the ride I was probably 9 years old, 10 years later it’s still my favorite ride! I always make it an effort to go on Jaws whenever I go to Universal Studios I honestly don’t think I’ve been there once and not been on the ride. The beginning of
the ride is probably the
most unexpected for
first time riders but
it's also usually the
funniest, when you pass
the sinking boat every
thing gets serious from
that point. From the
boat house to the end of
the rid is my favorite
simply because in that
time span you have
explosions, fire,
grenade launchers, and
an electrocuted shark.
Overall Jaws has been in
action for a very long
time and as soon as you
get off of it you'll
know why its been able
to become a favorite at
Universal Studios for
all of these years.
