Walt
Disney World Magic Kingdom is host to Mickey's PhilharMagic 3D show.
It is located right across from Cinderella's Golden Carrousel in the
Fantasyland themed area. This is also where previous Disney theater
shows have run like the famous "Magic Journeys" and "The Legend of the Lion
King".
Mickey's PhilharMagic lasts approximately 11 1/2 minutes long and features
3D effects, interactive smells and misted water interacting with the
audience. There are a lot of characters that children will recognize
from the most recent hit movies that Disney has released scattered
throughout the movie. The show is projected on the largest 3D ONLY
screen ever made. It is 150 feet wide and quite impressive.
What
really sets this attraction apart from most of the shows or the rides at
Walt Disney World is that it combines 3 dimensional characters with
animatronic figures and audience participation to make it a truly sensory
experience. In fact some of the original animators from movies like
Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid came back to work with the creators
of the ride to recreate characters like Ariel from 2 dimensional to 3D
specifically for this ride.
The
storyline of Philharmagic is that Mickey is performing (as he does in
Fantasia's Sorcerers Apprentice segment) with the orchestra. Upon entering
the theater, in the waiting room area, the Disney staff has put up past
performance posters to make you feel as though this orchestra theater puts
on MANY different performances and you are just seeing the latest. But
before the show can start, Donald Duck comes in and steals Mickey's magical
wizard hat and that throws him into a musical, madcap chase for the hat to
return it before he gets in trouble. Along the way, he passes through
musical numbers and encounters with Ariel and Eric from "The Little
Mermaid", Aladdin and Jasmin from their magic carpet ride, Timon and Pumbaa
from the Lion King (this part is kinda stinky - in a LITERAL sense), Peter
Pan and Lumiere from "Beauty and the Beast". All the way, Donald
struggles to get grips back on the hat and songs from these movies are
played and combined with amazing 3-D visual and sensory effects. It
ends with a "BANG" and Donald is catapulted straight into the audience.
This is where an actual physically 3D version of Donald appears to everyone's
applause.
This is a MUST SEE ride for kids and adults. Easily one of the
best shows in any of the 4 theme parks and certainly one of the top2 rides
in Fantasyland. Don't miss PHILHARMAGIC!
