Universals attendance drops 4th straight quarter
As the global recession bottoms out, Universal Studios continues to feel the squeeze on its theme parks Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.
While sales on food, drink and souvenirs fell 2% , attendance continued to drop the last three months to 11% reflecting a decrease from 3 million to 2.7 million visitors. But things were even worst the 1st and 2nd quarter were attendance dropped 20% and 14% respectively.
Universals spokesman believe that the slumping economy was responsible for a 20.9% decline in profits from $42.2 million to $37.3 million at Orlando's #2 theme-park.
Although Universal slashed it's expenses by 14.2 percent, operating revenues dropped 14.4% down to $224.6 million.
