New monorail coming online at Disney
Back on July 5, two monorail trains collided killing pilot Austin Wuennenberg and injuring others. Austin was 21 years old and lived in Kissimmee. An ongoing investigation by the accident triggered an investigation by the NTSB and Occupational Safety in the US.
Disney intends to put a new train in service later this year consolidating the parts from the two damaged monorail trains. Naturally, only the best parts will be used from two trains that collided.
Perhaps commemorating the life of Wuennenberg, the new train will be painted in a distinct teal or pink and purple stripe separating it apart from the other trains.
Out of respect for the deceased, the former two trains after nearly 38 years of service will be taken offline. Albeit, mechanical and electrical components did not fail on the first train, the new train will undergo a comprehensive test of all elector-mechanical parts.
At the end of the day, Disney's monorail fleet will increase to eleven trains just short of twelve.
