Universal's Marvel theme-park rights safe for now

Some analysts believe that Disney will not reacquire Universals Marvel theme park rights in the near future. Earlier this week, Disney announced that it would acquire Marvel Entertainment estimated at $4 billion.

Although Universal will have Disney looking over it's shoulder when shareholders give their nod, you can be sure that Disney executives have some plans to reacquire licensing at some point.

Since 1937, Disney released feature film including, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, Pinnoccio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and many more. Disney's latest film was Wall-E with a G rating.

For the last decade, Disney's image has been changing subtly by degrees to reflect a more narcissistic world view that appeals to a more boy-type audience. The shift from wholesome films like Lion King to The Incredible Hulk, Cinderella to Spider-Man reveals a different 21st century mindset.

Although Disney executives state that they will honour Universals contracts with Marvel, it's likely that there are plans to buy-out some contracts in the near future.

Currently, Universal has exclusive rights to Fantastic Four, X-Men, Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man at it's East-Coast theme parks and Japan. Additional contacts are held by Twentieth Century Fox and Sony.

But the biggest rival of all these to it's east-coast theme parks is Universal. It's speculated that Maravel's super heroes will be showing up very soon in Anaheim California's Disney theme-parks.

We'll keep you posted.
