Disney Marvel deal very close
When looking at Disney's portfolio of characters, it's hard to imagine why Disney would acquire Marvel Entertainment which produces boy-like super heroes. By adding over 5,000 new characters to the Disney stable, it appears Disney may be emerging with a different image by marketing those characters west of the Mississippi line.
With it's recent negotiations to distribute Steven Spielberg's films and the $4 billion acquisition of Marvel Entertainment has been not only expensive but and interesting transition for Disney.
With more than a 4-fold return on Marvel's investment within the past 5 years, from a business perspective, this is a amazing adventure for an iconic company resurrected from filing bankruptcy twice in the 1990s.
On the other side of the camp, it appears that Universal Studios, Disney's rival, will have to begrudgingly write royalty checks to Disney.
Marvel who finished licensing it's characters to theme-parks like Universal Orlando is building a studio of it's own making it very attractive for Disney.
With a 5,000 character corral including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Marvel has gained Disney-like success through it's cinematic films.
With over 70 years of comic book creation, Marvel has become extremely buoyant in films, television, digital, and merchandising arms.
