Some resort destinations for conventions may cause image problems
As formerly mention, some government agencies are staying away from resort destinations for conventions to due image problems. Places like Las Vegas and Orlando may appear to be inappropriate for a government meetings.
Discovered last month was a virtual blacklist of destinations for conventions considered to be off-limits. This unwritten policy barred locations that appeared to be leisure destinations.
In response to concerns from democrat Senator Harry Reid from Nevada, the white house defended itself by saying the issue was more related to the justification and cost-benefit ratio for the activity.
Even though Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has sent a clear message that resort destinations may be permissible for objectives, this is not the prevailing position from other agencies within the government.
Several departments with the federal government including Homeland Security, Agriculture,and Justice may be in the process of writing policy that would bar government conventions at perceived entertainment venues.
Many of the travel services within these agencies continue to express concern that many directives come from the highest levels of government.
With over 1,000 letters sent to government travel services, Mayor Richard Crotty has tried to promote Orlando as a premium destination for conventions, low airfare, and business travel. Many believe that a passive posture would not be good for the welfare of the community.
