Pie tasters flock to Celebration
A nation that lives on pie came out for dessert at the annual Great American Pie Festival this weekend hosted by Celebration in Kissimmee. According to statistics, pie is not just for supper any longer said 35% of Americans that have pie for breakfast. Can't you imagine 65% of this nation eats pie for lunch?
People lined up to watch competitions as competitors from around the world wolf-down heaping quantities at the never-ending buffet. Can you imagine, in 2008, American's ate enough pie to circle the globe one time?
Guests consumed heaps of the deliciously sweet substance Friday-Sunday at Lakeside Park, downtown Celebration. Monetary prizes were given to winner of various categories during this 15th annual pie competition.
Celebration hosted a variety of events from celebrity chef demonstrations to pie-eating contests, Piecasso arts to crafts and more.
A whopping $700 million in pie is sold in the US each year in grocery stores not including restaurants. According to the American Pie Council & Crisco, 19% are apple pie lovers, 13% prefer pumpkin, 12% pecan, followed by banana 10% with cherry coming in last at 9%.
One guest named Ginny commented that she didn't go to see competitions but just to enjoy tasting pie for two hours. She consumed large amounts of the tasty delight including chocolate cream pie, key lime, coconut cream, caramel, sweet patatoe raison, French apple pie, cherry, triple berry, peach, pecan, and finally she was stuffed.
