Fun Spot U.S.A at Old Town

Just recently my girlfriend and I visited Fun Spot U.S.A located right next to Old Town in Kissimmee. This place packs a great bang for the buck, we purchased the unlimited rides arm band so we can have free run of all the go carts and fair style rides that they have available. We went fairly early in the afternoon so the place was virtually empty. First thing we did was jump straight onto the Vortex which is one of the must drive tracks at Fun Spot U.S.A. You start off at ground level then go up a parking garage-esque circular incline. Once you get to the top of about three stories you get to one of the funnest parts of the track, its a decline at about forty-five degrees to build up speed for the next turn the Vortex has in store. This turn is the thirty-two degree bank turn which is the most fun part of the track. Even though if u go up high to ride the bank and your trying to catch and pass some one its not the ideal place to go yet still pretty fun. Myself personally likes to make a quick sharp turn to get the extra an second off my lap time. After you complete that turn there is a slight decline and then a hard right which is fairly easy to get around at full speed then another had right and back around again. This track as in most of the tracks you wont ever have to take your foot off the gas unless your a little bit more of a cautious driver.

The next track we did was the blue track Chaos. This track is located on the opposite side of the ticket booth from Vortex. Vortex and Chaos are built intertwining with each other so pretty much the whole race you can see people driving on Vortex. You start off on this track in the same three lane set up as Vortex and after the employee moves the cone and you take off your almost immediately into a slight up hill right. After that your into a hard left hand turn and slightly down hill then another hard left. After that second hard left it heads down hill which your front wheels slightly come off the ground and on the double rider karts you can actually see the back of the kart scrape the ground and make sparks. after that is a hard left, then a quick right. then u go on a curved up hill climb that makes you speed back down hill and to your last turn which is another right.

The first time we did this track there were two other people on the track with us which makes for a little bit more fun. At the start i was in the third position. After the start i had a hard time getting around the little girl in the second position as she was driving slower and taking the inside of every single turn and even though she was driving slower I still couldn't get around to the outside. After i finally did get around her it was still the first lap but the driver in the first position had a pretty big lead, i was gaining on him though. When i finally got caught up to him we were battling for the inside and the front but he hugged the rail on the inside of every turn and even after my valiant effort it didn't pay off before i knew it the checkered flag was out and the red stop light was lit signaling to end of the race.

We then took a break from the go karts for a little bit to do an oldie but goodie carnival ride the tilt a whirl. Its been a while since i have been on a tilt a whirl but i t hasn't lost its luster for me its like going back to my child hood and my fascination with being dizzy. I wouldn't say its a must do but if you want to take a break from driving that's one of the things i recommend, along with the bumper cars. The bumper cars is another classic that will never lose its luster. When we did this ride we had nothing else in mind but crash into each other as hard as possible no mater what area of the car we hit. They were a great time even though we were the only ones on the attraction.

Next ride was the road course these karts were a little bit bigger which for a tall guy like me was a big plus. The road course is a smaller track packed with more turns than the other tracks. It starts out with a left turn, than another left turn the u get a quick hard u-turn thrown in followed by a left. Next comes a left u-turn and then a right. After that u slide into two left hand turns in a row then a couple more u-turn one left then one right, then you repeat. This was on of the funner courses, to me because i personally love sliding around turns and acting like an Indy Car race car driver. I went full throttle the whole time, my girlfriend on the other hand didn't go all out as I could have guessed because she is a more cautious driver and i can be a bit more wreck less from time to time.

We then went to one of the food and beverage stands and got a souvenir cups that is five dollars and gets you unlimited refills through out your whole stay at Fun Spot, which is a great deal compared to any other park in Orlando. The funnel cakes are just like at the carnivals, the are a little piece of fried batter sugary heaven. Their chicken tenders and fries were great as well. They have plenty of shaded areas to sit and relax out of the sun to enjoy your food.

The next track was the slick track located right beside the Road Course. This was my favorite course all day even though it is a small oval with only two turns. When you get into the kart buckled in the employee goes through the old speech with all the rules that you've heard before except at the end he says good luck the track is wet. That is because after you start off the employee heads to the middle of the track and throws water all over one of the turns and that small little detail is what makes the track my favorite. The first few times i hit the water i was a little bit cautious using the break before i entered the puddle. Then after i got more comfortable my wreck less side came out and i was drifting around the turn. At the end of the race my recklessness caught up with me twice as i came into the turn to fast and couldn't control the kart and it spun out, to someone who cared it probably embarrassing but to me it was fun.

Next was another break from the go karts to the carnival style rides again. They have a rather fun ride that looks like it might be lame but its rather fun. It is called Surfs Up. This ride is different because your standing up on a giant surf board that goes back and forth and spins the whole time it was fun, especially standing on the end where the operator of the ride advised was the best place to be. The next ride was rather scary to me I'm not scared of much but this one got my adrenaline pumping. When you first look at the ride it doesn't look like much but it packs a punch. At first I thought it was like the good old viking ship just set up a little bit different, its far from that. This ride is made to move by air and you swing back and forth as the air makes u go swing higher and higher until you feel like you gonna slide backwards out of your seat. Needless to say i was happy when that ride was over.

After that we were looking for somewhere to beat the heat, so we went inside Full Speed race and golf which has full motion Nascar simulators an arcade and glow in the dark mini-golf. You can actually use Fun Spot tickets for the simulators and the golf but unfortunately not the armband. The prices aren't that expensive for the amount of fun that you have in the simulator and golf. I loved the simulator it was fun especially when you get put into the wall and flipped. Another plus is they print out your race results and you can bring that paper back and get a discount on the simulator. The glow in the dark golf is fun as well. It would probably be more fun with a larger group but still fun with just one other person. The glow in the dark murals of cars and different vehicles painted on the wall are cool but the coolest parts are the glowing painted cars, monster truck, dune buggy and motorcycle make it all that much cooler.

The next place we went was a small little area that wasn't a part of Fun Spot so neither tickets or armbands worked. They are located right off the main sidewalk right after all of the carnival style games. This attraction was a Velcro wall. You pay seven dollars and you have unlimited access to it all day long. For a bounce house that you use with a Velcro suit on and hurl yourself into a wall however which way you wish to stick against it is an extreme amount of fun. I had been on one before but my girlfriend never had. She had way more fun than i did because i knew what to expect she didn't. The laughter never stopped the whole time that we were jumping and sticking against that wall.

You can also go to a little kiosk set up near the Road Course and Slick Track that your can take a fifteen minute Segway ride. I had never been on a segway so i said why not. we signed in and paid and then put our required helmets on and took off, i didn't expect a Segway to be as much fun as it was, it was a great time.

The biggest, tallest, fastest, most visible, and noticeable attraction at Fun Spot U.S.A is called the Sky Coaster which is a separate fee to ride but a fun attraction at that. You first strap your self in this harness and then you go to the plat form and they strap you to these cables. W1hen you are hanging on your stomach just hanging you star slowly upwards to about 300 hundred feet!!!!! Then as if your not scared enough at the daunting height you pull the release cord and fall right back down soaring to over 75mph and then right before you think your gonna hit the water below the cables kick in and you start swinging back and forth like a playground swing on super steroids. If you need adrenaline, that right there is a pure 100% shot of it that will get your heart pounding and your vocal chords so soar you wont be able to speak for a week.

After that we were pretty much done i drove Chaos twice and Vortex once more with my girl friend in the passenger seat of a two person kart and we were pretty much done for the day. There were some of the carnival rides we didn't ride and we didn't play any of the carnival games but all in all it was a great afternoon of fun at a less expensive amusement park. I've been to all the major theme parks in the area and we all know you can only handle so much of hour long lines and huge crowds so if you want to get away from all that and have as much fun as those big over crowded theme parks for a cheaper price i strongly suggest Fun Spot U.S.A. If the rides and the great price aren't enough to draw you to Fun Spot then there's another perk in the free parking as you have to pay thirteen bucks anywhere else. There is also free admission meaning if you have kids and want to take them and just watch them go that's an option that you have. I can't wait to go again and even try their original location Fun Spot Action Park off of world famous International drive.
