DIsney attempts to manage during tough times

During the past 6 weeks, Florida's biggest employer of over 62,000 workforce, eliminated over 1,900 positions during the economic downturn. Among the cuts Disney eliminated 1,400 jobs in Florida alone. Disney was not obligated to disclose the information because they had not crossed the 500 jobs per business unit.

Nationwide, Disney eliminated 700 open positions, made 50 buyouts and laid off 1,150 people. Disney also slashed jobs at the Disney Vacation club and Disney reservation center in Tampa. In Florida alone Disney laid off 900 people & eliminated 500 vacant jobs.

This years layoffs represents the largest increase of unemployment from Florida's largest employer since the spring of 2001 when at least 1, 400 positions were eliminated.

Both Disneyland Anaheim California, Burbank, and Glendale had combined 200 buyouts & layoff and 100 eliminated positions. Disney began a sweeping restructuring pressured by the deep global recession on Feb 16 2009 of it's theme parks at Disney World and Disneyland in focused on consolidating operations.
