Our family trip to Sea World Orlando
The phone call came in with only a week’s notice. I was to take our two children ages nine and ten, and meet three adult friends and two additional kids for a private tour of the inner workings of Sea World, Orlando. I was up to the challenge.
The eight of us set out to explore the park with a map in hand and several different activities in mind. The leader of our group however, took control and our first stop was at Shamu Stadium. The show was great. It is amazing to watch these powerful and large killer whales interact with the trainers. The ring leader of our group made special arrangements with a friend that works at Sea World.
We had an opportunity to see a kookaburra, fish eagle and several exotic birds up close. We had the opportunity to touch an Ant Eater. Everyone held the fish eagle on their left arm. This is a bird that has a six foot wingspan and is very impressive. That was very cool. Our entire group of eight had an opportunity to feed and touch the black false killer whale. The trainer even taught the kids some hand commands and the whale followed the amateur hand signals and soaked the kids.
Next, we headed over to see the largest male killer whale in captivity, Tilley. He was awesome!!!! We all got the chance to feed him. We all had a blast seeing these beautiful animals up close and learning about them it was very interesting. A special thanks to all the wonderful animal trainers.
Next, we were off to the Clyde and Seamore Show over at the Sea Lion and Otter Stadium. The show has a Pirate Island theme and we all laughed as the story unfolded while the animals interacted with trainers, searching for buried treasure. We all laughed a lot and enjoyed the show.
We also saw the whale and dolphin show. This was amazing in addition to the elegance and grace from the dolphins and whales the trainers were dressed in elaborate costumes. Everyone was performing. There were divers doing fancy high dives. One performer was dressed in the most exotic costume resembling a brilliant red peacock bird hanging from suspended cables. They all preformed to music and it was a fantastic show.
Now we were all hungry so we headed over to The Terrace passing through the Clydesdale Hamlet. These beautiful stables were immaculate each horse had their own, very clean stall. As we strolled through the stables looking at the other horses, there was a separate line for a chance to pet and be photographed with one of the Clydesdale’s. We all jumped at the opportunity and … WOW … standing next to this magnificent animal was a treat.
He smelled so good and he was so soft and very shiny and he was very well maintained. We continued walking to the Terrace Restaurant. We were all starving- they served hand carved sandwiches, Caesar salad, hot dogs along with other side items.
The remainder of the day we strolled around the park visiting: The Penguin Encounter- ….who doesn’t enjoy seeing Penguins they are so cute… This exhibit allows you to view the Penguins up close in their environment we all enjoyed watching them swim they are very quick and fast.
Then we discovered Pacific Point Reserve. This is home for California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals where you can feed them (of course we did) this is very entertaining and a lot of fun. We even saw a mom and baby sunning themselves on a huge rock. They were very cute. We spotted the Shark Encounter exhibit- The kids were very excited, as you walk through the exhibit you see separate tanks filled with different aquatic animals.
Next you travel through a clear plastic tunnel with several different sharks swimming overhead this was awesome everyone loved it. Next, we ended up at the Stingray Lagoon- Everyone had a blast trying to pet a Stingray as they keep circling the lagoon. The kids especially enjoyed themselves waiting with anticipation for their chance to touch the Stingrays.
To conclude our fantastic day, we made our way back to Shamu Stadium for the evening show Shamu Rocks. The show was an evening rock concert the stadium was illuminated with colored lighting, water was spraying into the pool and the animal trainers were dressed in bright colored costumes. As the music began to play Shamu came to life by leaping and splashing to the music it was great.
Over the entire day we had a great time. The shows were entertaining for everyone in the group. As the day closed out we took our tired kids home knowing that we had created memories that will last a lifetime.
