Peabody Orlando Hotel Fresh Start
Between the global building boom of 2004, the travel slump caused by terrorists attacks of 2001, and the current housing slump, the 1998 Peabody Orlando Hotel project has experience several interruptions. Today there is evidence that the hotel is experiencing a fresh start.
Inside the sprawling hotels 55,000 sq ft ballroom, backhoes are moving dirt around signaling a renewed effort to resume the construction of the 34 story hotel. Six weeks later, men have begun to pour concrete for a new floor. Opening in July, will be a 21,000-car parking garage that handle the overflow from Orange County Convention Center.
Hotel executive vice president Allen Villa Verde is optimistic that the best timing for renovation & expansion is during economic declines. Vendors are desperate for sales creating a buyers market for just about everything.
Employing more than 900 employees initially and increasing to nearly 1,200 employees in the months to come will truly help bring recovery to Orlando. As the #2 convention destination in the world, the current trend is to build increasingly large hotels says the family owned business executive vice president Verde.
The Peabody which hosts nearly 1,641 guest rooms will be the largest hotel in North America with over 210,000 of meeting space compared with its rival Orange County Convention & Visitors Center.
No one really cares that this is an expansion of the hotel, as long as it appears to be a new property that's all that matters.
