Walt Disney’s magical prices up this weekend

Early price increases are shocking when theme parks usually increase prices in December. Currently the 1 Day of Touch of Magic Adult pass increased over 5% to $75.62 tax included.

However, with the current slump in housing and the $1.1 billion in budget cuts facing Florida lawmakers, there is a bit of good news, Billy Boys Discount Tickets are selling deep discounts on Disney Tickets to the end of 2007.

Disney’s across the board 5% plus increase on it’s gate prices affectively offsets the advertising efforts of WestWayne to bring in new business for Orlando. WestWayne reported an increase in it’s marketing budget to $67 million due to increases in the Tourist Development Tax also known as the bed tax. Tourist Development tax applies to living quarters or accommodations for a term of six months or less.

Imagine, after Disney announced a $1.1 billion dollar profit increase this quarter, they then turn around and slam the tourist with a price increase. What gives here? Is this another example of corporate greed?

Although there is no indication according to Disney that prices will affect customer attendance, spokesman for Disney declared that their price increases were unrelated to their corporate earnings but rather to wholesalers, commercial publications and tour organizers.
