PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3:AT WORLD'S END
On Friday I went to see the movie Pirates of the Caribbean 3 at Disney’s Pleasure Island (PI). It was pretty confusing. If you haven’t seen the second film then don’t read this because it tells a lot about the second movie. If you haven’t seen the first two then I wouldn’t recommend that you see this one because you will be completely lost. If you loved the first two, then chances are you are going to fall in love with this one too. If you didn’t enjoy the first two then take my advice and don’t waste your money. The movie is 168 minutes long, and you can definitely tell although it is entertaining. You just have to be in the movie mood to fully enjoy it. The plots are so heavy that you can easily get lost in what’s happening so I suggest no bathroom breaks or be ready to go see it again.
This movie consists of a lot of betrayal. The movie starts exactly where it left off at. Jack Sparrow is dead and Captain Barbossa is back. It begins in the Orient where Elizabeth and Barbossa are taking a prisoner, which is actually Will, to pirate Sao Feng to trade for some charts. The scam works out and they all get away with the charts. The charts are needed to get to the end of the world in able to bring Jack back. Elizabeth Swan, Will Turner, and Barbossa get together a group of men and sail on there way to retrieve Jack from Davy Jones’ locker where he went after he sunk with the Black Pearl. Each of them has their own reasons for being there. They get him back early on in the movie and are ready to get even with Davy Jones and the East India Trading Company.
Throughout most of the movie all they do is get together with different groups of people and make “deals” that they all lie about and are in it for different reasons. They all go behind each others backs the whole movie. All will Turner wants to do is free his father from being on the Flying Dutchman like he promised to do, but there is a problem. To free him someone has to take his place and be bound to the ship. He has to choose between his father or his love, Elizabeth. He can either take his father’s place and only get to see her one day every ten years or let his dad stay. To add to it, there is the sea goddess Calypso who was bound into human form and the heroes want to release her in hopes of her helping them against Lord Becket, or will she kill them? Elizabeth gets to be a Captain of a ship after a death of someone and seems fearless at her high level of empowerment. The big scene is the battle that is against Lord Becket who is in control of the Flying Dutchman and the good guys. The connection between Will and Elizabeth is far from the first two movies. There isn’t that ever ending love there, and they seem to just be going behind each others backs the whole time. In the end the sort things out and are all goo goo again.
All the action gets saved to the last half hour of the movie where the big battle takes place. Calypso is released, and throughout the whole battle, it’s raining. People die, change places, and get married. The twists and shocks all make you wonder about the fourth movie. There is no definite answer on that. There are enough answers to make it seem like the end, but there are enough questions to make another film out of them. I went through and read a lot of reviews on the movie. It seemed to be almost half and half of loved it and got bored to death. Most of them didn’t want a fourth movie mainly because they were satisfied and thought there was no reason for another. I, however, would like to see a fourth. I don’t like the fate of one of the characters and would like to see them rescue him. That is what pirates do anyways; they fight people and rescue their companions that screwed up along the way.
Note: stay after and watch the credits. They give you a hint about a chance of a fourth movie.
