5 million dollar makeover scheduled for the old Hyatt Orlando hotel

To date, the new developers of the Hyatt have spent some $30 million in this business venture not including the $30 million dollar purchase and some $5 million in change for taxes. Initial stages for the new hotel consisted of 120 palm trees, swimming pool vinyl, orange paint, new furniture - linens -curtains - bedspreads and $750,000 in landscaping.

Once considered to be a premier luxury hotel in 1972, the aging hotel will now begin competing with some of the newer rivals and help boost tourism for Kissimmee. With its size and location, the new Sun Resort could become the crown jewel for Kissimmee’s tourism market in addition to producing 300 new jobs.

Consisting of about 922 rooms, the Hyatt has spent a total of $5 million in renovations since it closed three years ago and will likely open on June 1st as the Sun Resort by Lexington. With continued operations, the new owners believe that they can generate cash flow while awaiting renovations that will begin as early as 2009.

Construction of the luxury resort can not begin until a public hearing is conducted by the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council followed by approval from the Osceola County Commission.

With a two phase construction makeover slotted by 2016, the new hotel will be home to several luxury hotels that will feature a spa, water park, and 3,460 rooms
